We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit Aristotle
We all create habits that can make us sick or make us healthier In chronic disease such as the IC bladder pain syndrome(interstitial cystitis, vulvodynia, chronic prostatitis, IBS, GERD, and fibromyalgia) it’s clear as in any other chronic disease that poor choices have been made since we are all responsible for the diseases we create for ourselves
But what makes a healthy choice and what makes an unhealthy choice? That my dear reader is the essence of a health system based on a philosophy(energy science discipline) versus a system created by one that doesn’t have one(matter science) If our choices are based on a system that bases its choices on a philosophical relationship with Nature Herself not only are the recommendations always rock solid and something that we can count on but there is a weaving of the recommendations such that all support one another in the pursuit of better health
So we create better habits when we are aligned with Nature Herself These will always be the correct choices And when we practice them they become stronger habits that over time will create physiologic movement toward better health Habits are lifestyle behavior patterns that either create health or move us away from it So let’s assume that we have identified a habit like kevala(sesame oil swish aka oil pulling) that is worthwhile promoting in our lives
Formation of a Habit Like Kevala
For some swishing oil around the oral cavity is repulsive so there is resistance But we understand that doing it from an Ayurvedic point of view is energetically valuable since it pulls Kapha from the oral cavity So we decide to try it First of all we have to have the unrefined sesame oil near the sink because, and this is important, we want to put this habit in our morning routine We also have to find a receptacle for getting rid of it after we have done the swish Does it go down the sink?(not a good idea) Does it get flushed down the toilet?(acceptable as long as we’re not on a septic system…if septic we should have a container under the sink to spit it into once done)
So as we can see there are some steps for us to do in order to set the stage for doing kevala to begin with Now we’re ready to do kevala….but there’s this resistance about the whole thing That’s OK Let’s just give the mindbody a chance to settle in and do it BUT every morning we’re at the sink thinking about doing kevala Not yet, not today, maybe tomorrow But every morning there’s a dialogue going on about whether to do kevala or not
We’ve got everything set up and then one day, the mindbody is ready to DO it We take a swig of oil run it around the mouth and spit it out WE DID IT Voila! the first step of a habit has been created We actually did it Now it’s all down hill We repeat it over and over again and a habit has been born Notice what has happened There was a particular cue or situation that occurred to remind us that the kevala needed to be done…the morning routine But before we even did it we needed to have all the proper materials and thinking about beginning the habit that needed to be done We needed to prepare the mindbody
Refining Habits: The Journey to Better Health
The best thing about habits going forward is that there are made to be modified Oh maybe we’ll do the kevala before brushing the teeth After trying it that way for a while we might try it after brushing the teeth Or maybe we’ll try doing some gum massage with the fingers while we swish the oil around the mouth Hey this oil isn’t as bad as we thought! Maybe we’ll try using the tongue to massage the oil around on the gums while we have it in the mouth
We get the idea that once an identifiable healthy habit is formed that playing with it in a creative way can not only enhance it but also begin engaging ourselves in the health benefits of it We begin to notice that when we spit the oil into the toilet bowl that we notice that the longer we hold the oil orally we see that it’s broken down into smaller and finer droplets until it’s a fine well digested solution This my friend is a remarkable energy science observation that shows that the agni is strong and well supported in the oral cavity
This happens with all positive health promoting habits that we cultivate in our lives All we have to do is remain observant
And lastly if we want to replace a bad habit with a new healthy one….we follow the same kevala steps

You would do anything to deal with the pain of IC especially when flares occur so it would stand to reason that using an antacid of some form would be appropriate since for some it gives them relief of their heartburn but has also been anecdotally reported by some to help with their IC symptoms But interestingly disease labels such as IBS, fibromyalgia, and even vulvodynia share the problems of too much heat in the physiology
Interestingly acid indigestion(heartburn) and GERD are strongly associated with IC In an online survey done by the...

The energy body is composed of three types of energy using the energy science model of Ayurveda As I have talked about in the past how it is articulated in other models such as the Traditional Oriental Medicine discipline is different but in essence it’s the same, the mindbody is being seen as an energy field, not a matter field
The three energy patterns in the Ayurvedic model are Vata(energy of movement), Pitta(energy of transformation or metabolism), and Kapha(energy of stability) You need all three to function but they are...

In the last couple of months I have written intermittently to you about the energy science’s understanding of toxic load(called ama) that occurs with all disease Since this kind of thinking is completely foreign to those of us following the matter science medical model, it represents a radical departure as to how we think about the origin and treatment of disease
The bladder pain syndrome is such a complex of physiologic imbalances composed of CPPS(chronic pelvic pain syndrome), fibromyalgia, GERD, IBS, IC, and vulvodynia that are all...

Doing energy science work to heal is different than what you’ve been exposed to as you’ve wandered through the matter science world of medicine and nutrition This is because it does its science differently but its recommendations are at least grounded on a system of thinking that spans thousands of years, not just decades This approach to IC(interstitial cystititis….bladder pain syndrome), IBS, GERD, fibromyalgia, chronic prostatitis, and vulvodynia exposes us to a different way of thinking
Fad Diets
Rumor has it that...

In the energy science of Ayurveda there can be no disease without the presence of toxicity In this discipline it’s called AMA(this doesn’t stand for the American Medical Association) which means undigested, unprocessed food Hmmm, if I have unprocessed, undigested food hanging around in my GIT(GI tract) that must mean that my digestive capability is in some way impaired? Bingo
Toxicity and Disease
So in the end the root cause of all disease is the presence of bodily AMA And to heal any disease whether it be the...

IC with its associated inflammatory disease labels such as acid indigestion, GERD, chronic prostatitis, IBS, fibromyalgia, and vulvodynia all have one thing in common Inflammation so it behoves those to stay away from inflammatory foods To figure out which those are, the energy scince looks at tastes
In energy science nutrition there are six tastes: sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent Three of these are inflammatory Can you guess which ones they are?
While the matter science nutritional format only sees four of these,...

The pain of IC is related to pelvic inflammation particularly of the bladder The flares that occur are related to the episodic increase in intensity of this inflammation So it stands to reason that the treatment for such a chronic disease would be antiinflammatory(AIF) This is not rocket science, folks! And there is a wide host of naturally occurring AIF For example, tumeric is commonly used in cooking and is a well understood AIF which when used with black pepper is potentiated even further in terms of its AIF effectNow the well...

It’s clear that foods can heal but the converse of this statement is also true: Foods can make us sick But why is it that Molly can eat certain foods and you can’t? It has to do with the qualities that increase in Molly and the qualities that increase in you AND which qualities bring about balance for Molly and which cause imbalance for you
We are all uniquely different and what brings about the painful bladder syndrome of IC(interstitial cystitis) is different for each of us The bottom line is that once the imbalance of...

The matter science discipline has made the relationship between IBS(irritable bowel syndrome) and intersitial cystitis from population studies but due to its model of healing it has little to say about the association It exists but we don’t know why
The energy science model relates that the vast majority of disease begins in the GI tract This is why nutrition becomes the first mainstay of therapy Of course it depends on what kind of nutritional advice is given Molecular nutritional advice as I talk about in IC Bladder Pain...

From an energy science perspective nothing is static You’re either getting better or getting worse So when a flare occurs it can signal either energy being released(good) or more imbalance of the existing energy patterns that are causing the symptoms to begin with(not so good)
How do you know the difference? Often times you don’t but your history can give you the answer
Before EW(Energy Work)
Before you were doing energy work there are choices that don’t lend to balancing your energy body Not knowing that coffee or...
